Editorial Policy
How we decide what to recommend, and what we won’t do
What We Commit To
- We don’t invent reviewer credentials or “years of testing” we don’t have.
- We don’t quote exact prices or star ratings in article text — both change too often and Amazon’s own affiliate terms discourage it. We use ranges (“entry-level”, “mid-range”, “premium”) and point you to the live listing for current pricing.
- We verify a product is currently listed and available on Amazon before linking to it. Discontinued or chronically out-of-stock items get removed, not left up for the click.
- Affiliate relationships never override editorial judgement — a product we wouldn’t recommend to a friend doesn’t get a card on this site, commission or not.
- Affiliate links are disclosed at the bottom of every article that contains them, per our Affiliate Disclosure.
How We Review
Kayak Cast Lab is an independent site run by a small editorial team, not by professional guides, instructors or fishing professionals. Our guides and reviews are based on manufacturer specifications, listing details, published safety guidance and public buyer feedback. We do not claim to have hands-on tested every product we write about. If a manufacturer or owner offers us access to a product, we will test it and update the page to say which parts were tested. Method last updated: 16 October 2026.
Corrections
Kayak fishing gear changes fast — models get discontinued, specs get updated, retailers go out of stock. If you spot something out of date, let us know and we’ll fix it.
